I'm Not Wonder Woman: A Reminder
/Running does things to you. It builds stamina, increases confidence, improves mental health and has a profound effect on your overall fitness.
Or, in my case, it gives you one overweening ego.
I don't know why I think being a runner makes my lower body invincible to the pain ordinary mortals may experience, but it does. It's why I continue to remain shocked at how horrible I am at spinning. It's also why I'm reluctant to admit--at midnight on a Friday--that my glutes, hamstrings, and thighs are KILLING me, compliments of Jillian Michaels.
I'm a sucker for a DVD workout. I own Taebo, Pilates, Yoga, and P90-X. And in yesterday's mail came my newest order- Jillian Michaels Killer Buns & Thighs.
Now, I'm not completely stupid. I realize any Jillian Michaels workout is going to be challenging. But before sliding in the dvd, I held a "I run marathons--I can take it" mindset.
I did take it. The dvd offers 3 levels of workouts--beginner, medium, and advanced. I went with medium and, to my credit, made it through the entire workout w/out feeling too bad. In fact, I was thinking I probably needed to ramp it up to the advanced level the next go round.
Which I may do, if feeling ever returns to the lower half of my body. Freakin' OW. I'm supposed to run 10 miles tomorrow with the Sole Sisters. I wonder how they'd feel about carrying me?
The back of the box recommends completing the 30-minute workout 5 times a week for a month before moving to the next level. Of course, now I'm ticked that I'm in such pain, so I HAVE to do the workouts until I can master the Advanced level.
But at least I have the right mindset.
I am very, very afraid...
Cheers,
Dena
